Blacksburg Transit is launching a new program aimed at high school students.
Rising ninth through 12th grade Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students will be able to ride BT free of charge system wide during the period from June 6 through Aug. 13. Eligible students will be issued a BT Summer Ride pass electronically. Additionally, students younger than high school age will also be able to ride free when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.
The program will run during MCPS summer vacation and is intended to connect students with safe, affordable, and accessible transportation to summer employment, shopping and recreational activities in the BT service area.
To ride the bus, students will need to show a digital (on phone or tablet) or printed version of the pass when boarding. Information regarding service can be found at ridebt.org.
“We want to empower students to use public transportation to travel independently in Blacksburg and Christiansburg,” said Tom Fox, Transit Director.
