The Transit Center Loops opened Monday, June 24th, 2024.

All BT buses arriving on campus drop off passengers at the Transit Center Loops located near the Perry Street garage. The Loops are also the central stop passengers board buses to leave campus.

All on campus time checks are now at the Loops. There is no BT service to Burruss Hall, Alumni Mall, Squires, War Memorial Hall, and Beamer Way. 

  

NAVIGATING THE LOOPS

The Transit Center is flanked by two bus loops. The Maroon Loop is located to the east of the building, between Stanger Street and the Perry Street Garage. The Orange Loop is located to the west of the building, between West Campus Drive and the Perry Street Garage. 

Bays 1-9 are in the Maroon Loop.

Bays 10-17 are in the Orange Loop. 

Customers should use the new Campus Shuttle (CAS) route to reach central campus or get back to the Loops.

All routes have changed, please follow the links below to review changes.

CRB and PHB do not operate during Reduced service; new maps have been posted, but the timetables will not be available until closer to Full service. All routes will be updated before full service begins with their full service timetables.

Central Campus Routes Combined Map, use the CAS, CRC, or HXP to get around central campus.

  • CAS - Campus Shuttle, new circulator carrying passengers back and forth from each loop at the Transit Center along West Campus Drive, Washington Street and Kent Street/Stanger Street.
  • CRB - Carpenter Boulevard, provides service from Carpenter Boulevard and Prices Fork to the Transit Center. Only operates during full service weekdays; use HWA, HWB or HWC during all other times.
  • CRC - Corporate Research Center Shuttle, provides service from the Industrial Park (BT, VTTI), the Corporate Research Center, Chicken Hill, Vet Med to the Transit Center.
  • HDG - Harding Avenue, provides service from Ascot Lane (Windsor Hills) along Harding Avenue and Roanoke Street to the Transit Center
  • HWA - Hethwood A, provides service from Stroubles Circle (Tall Oaks), Heather Drive and Prices Fork to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays; use HWC during all other times.
  • HWB - Hethwood B, provides service from Hethwood Blvd, Tall Oaks, Heather Drive and Prices Fork to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays; use HWC during all other times.
  • HWC - Hethwood Combined, combines the HWA and HWB routes. Only operates during evenings and weekends when HWA and HWB are not operating. During weekdays use HWA and HWB.
  • HXP - Hokie Express, proivdes service from Oak Lane (Greek Housing), along Duck Pond Drive, Washington Street, and Kent Street/Stanger Street to the Transit Center.
  • NMG -  North Main Givens, provides service along North Main, Givens Lane, Whipple Drive to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays; use NMP during all other times.
  • NMP - North Main Patrick Henry, provides service along North Main, Lucas, Giles, Patrick Henry, Givens Lane, Whipple Drive, and Seneca Circle to the Transit Center. Only operates during evenings and weekends. During weekdays use NMG.
  • PHB - Patrick Henry B, provides service along Toms Creek, Patrick Henry and North Main Street to the Transit Center. Only operates during full service weekdays. Use TCR/TCP or NMG/NMP during all other times.

 

  • PHD - Patrick Henry Drive, provides service along North Main Street, Lucas, Drive, Giles Road, Patrick Henry, Seneca Circle, and Progress Street to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays (full and reduced). During evenings or weekends, use NMP or TCP.
  • PRG - Progress Street, provides service along Progress Street, Patrick Henry and Toms Creek. Only operates during weekdays (full and reduced). During all other times use TCP.
  • SMA - South Main Airport, provides service along South Main Street, Country Club Drive, Airport Rd., Fairfax, New Kent Road and Marlington Street to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays; During weekends use SME.
  • SME - South Main Ellett, provides service along South Main Street, Fairfax, New Kent Road and Marlington Street to the Transit Center. Only operates on Weekends. During weekdays use SMA or SMP.
  • SMP - South Main Professional Park, provides service along South Main Street, Industrial Park Drive (VTTI), Fairfax, New Kent Road and Marlington Street to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays. During weekends use SME.
  • TCP - Toms Creek Progress, provides service along Toms Creek Road, Broce Drive, Progress Street, Patrick Henry Drive/University City Blvd and the Transit Center. Only operates during evenings and weekends. During all other times use TCR or PRG.
  • TCR - Toms Creek Road, provides service along Toms Creek Road and University City Boulevard to the Transit Center. Only operates during weekdays. During evenings and weekends use TCP.
  • TTT - Two Town Trolley, provides service from the Transit Center to the LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, Uptown Christiansburg Mall, Walmart, Laurel Plaza (Hobby Lobby area), Arbor Drive and Market Place. No service to Main Street.
  • UCB - University City Boulevard, provides service from University City Blvd, Patrick Henry Drive and Progress Street to the Transit Center. Only operates on weekdays (full and reduced). During all other times use TCR/TCP.

What are The Loops?

The Loops are the new central hub for all BT buses on Virginia Tech’s Campus. The two paved bus loops sit on either side of Perry Street Garage and are where all buses arriving on campus pick up and drop off passengers.

Where is my bus?

Upon arrival, each bus will pull into a specific bay. The bays are numbered and route assignment by bay can be found in the BT app or on signage at the Loops.

How do I get around campus?

The Campus Shuttle leaves from the Loops and circulates campus. For more information, check out the Campus Shuttle map HERE.

CRC and HXP routes also service central campus stops.

How accessible are the loops?

The Loops are fully accessible to allow all passengers to get on and off of buses easily. All of our buses are equipped with ramps to allow for easy boarding for all.  

Which buses go to the Loops?

All BT buses arriving on campus stop at the Loops.

Will bus schedules change?

Yes, most bus schedules will shift slightly from the previous academic year due to route changes to accommodate the Loops.

What should I do if I lose an item on a BT bus operating from The Loops?

All items found on buses are stored in our lost and found at our administrative offices located at 2800 Commerce Street. Call 540-443-1500 to check if we have your item.
